Footprints (Black & White)

Redwood National Park, CA The last stop on my three week "Great Mega Western Photo Tour", I arrived in Redwood National Park as the sun set behind a massive grey cloud. Seeing a sliver at the horizon, I framed this image of "footprints" in the rocks. I waited for the sun to briefly break through, which it finally did, illuminating the footprints in warm light and the sky in a subtle glow.

Ripples of TIme

Death Valley National Park, CA I feel this shot captures the otherwordly nature of hiking amongst the giant Mesquite Sand Dunes in Death Valley. It almost feels like another planet or a perfect site for meeting some extraterrestrials - perhaps someone believes they already have met them there.

Redwood National Park, CA A lovely waterfall just a short 2 mile or so hike from the road, Fairy Falls flows gracefully over the moss and lichen covered rocks in the midst of the ferns and redwood trees. A truly magical place.

The drive back through the Mohave desert always provides some incredible light over the unique desert plants. With this composition I chose to juxtapose the dry white shrub with the large storm cloud looming above.

Dead Horse Point State Park, UT This thunderstorm cleared up just as the sun was setting over Dead Horse Point, a panoramic viewpoint of the canyonlands in Southern Utah. The layers of light stone, darker canyon walls, and dramatic storm clouds were perfect for a black and white shot, capturing the texture and drama of this transitory moment.

After a rainy September day on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, I found this lovely scene from Cape Royal of the sun shining its last light, illuminating the canyon below.

High Desert, Eastern OR Driving along I-395 in the high deserts of Eastern Oregon, I spotted this bush and a unique shell-like pattern in front of it, driven by the high winds. I framed the shell-like pattern to draw the viewers eyes into the bush, centered under the dramatic clouds above.
